Outdoor Therapy

Sun shining through the trees in my outdoor therapy space in Burton. Outdoor Therapy in Burton-on-Trent. Experience the benefits of being outdoors, walk and talk therapy, with a qualified counsellor.

Growth, curiosity, adventure…

Feeling disconnected? Want to start therapy but the idea of sitting in a room fills you with dread? Or do you have a love for nature and the great outdoors? If any of these feel like you, maybe it’s worth trying Outdoor Therapy. The same 50 minutes, the same therapeutic relationship filled with warmth and compassion, but with the addition of another therapeutic intervention - nature.

Being out in nature is healing in itself, but add gentle exercise and a trained practitioner (me!) and you may have the perfect blend to experience a therapy that is sensitively tailored to you. I have specifically chosen an outdoor space that feels healing and nurturing - an oasis of trees and flowing water that provide a peaceful escape from the busy-ness of daily life.

Why go outdoors with me?

I have always felt at home in nature, and I’m passionate about sharing its benefits with as many people as possible. I just love the metaphors that nature effortlessly provides, and am always curious as to what it can teach me next.

I recently completed the Taking Therapy Outdoors Course provided by The Centre for Natural Reflection, and am simply bursting with ideas of how to incorporate nature into my therapeutic work.

Me Outdoors, enjoying the benefits of being in nature.
The satisfaction of walking and seeing something amazing. The beauty of nature.
Admiring the view. Framed by trees, and looking onto the sea. Green spaces and blue spaces both have benefits.

 FAQs

  • Oh yes! Weather can add to the experience, if only in reminding us that this too shall pass! The only time we can’t go outside is if it’s snowing or if the wind speeds make it risky to be near the trees (in which case I’ll be in touch to see if you’d prefer to move that particular session online, or cancel).

  • There’s not normally a dress code for therapy(!), but being outdoors means some more thought is needed when it comes to fashions. Suitable footwear is a must, as the site can get muddy and the terrain is uneven. We’re not hiking, but comfortable clothing and footwear means that you can feel more at ease and your focus can be on the therapeutic work. Don’t forget a waterproof coat if it’s raining!

  • Enquiries follow the same process as my indoor therapy (see my home page) - the only difference is that once you’ve had your FREE initial call, the initial consultation will take place in my outdoor space, so that you can decide if it’s right for you. If not, there is the option to take the therapy indoors (be aware that this is likely to be on a different day - but I’ll guide you through all of that!).

  • Sure! Taking our therapy outdoors may add an extra dimension to our work. Just tell me you’re interested in our next session.

Suitable footwear is a must for Outdoor Therapy as the terrain may be uneven.

With the outdoors comes uneven terrain, and suitable footwear is a must. I’m so sorry, but this does mean that the space isn’t accessible for everyone. However, most of my indoor spaces are fully accessible, so please do let me know if you’re curious about how we can bring nature into our indoor sessions.
